Tales from inventory #5: The Wizard of Oz by L Frank Baum. By now you've probably heard that when L Frank Baum was trying to come up with a name for his land of children's fantasy his eye fell on the file cabinet marked O-Z. And then was born the Wizard of Oz, published 1900. There followed 13 more wildly popular Oz Books until Baum's death in 1919. The series was continued for another 27 books by John R Neill, and later Ruth Plumly Thompson. The Oz books were much beloved by children and read to pieces.
